Installing wall cladding involves several steps that can vary slightly depending on the type of cladding material you’re using. Here’s a general guide to installing wall cladding, with tips for different types:

General Preparation

  • Measure the Wall:

Measure the dimensions of the wall to determine how much cladding material you need. Mark the locations of any studs, electrical outlets, or obstacles.

  • Prepare the Wall Surface:

Ensure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth. Repair any holes or imperfections. If you’re installing cladding over drywall, ensure it’s in good condition. For outdoor or high-humidity areas, ensure the wall is properly prepared to avoid moisture issues.

Installation Steps

  • Cut the Panels:

Measure and cut the MDF panels to fit the wall dimensions using a circular saw or jigsaw.

  • Prime and Paint (Optional):

If you plan to paint the MDF, apply a primer to seal the surface. Once dry, paint the panels in your desired color.

  • Apply Adhesive:

If panels are only going onto a wall, apply construction adhesive to the back of the panels. If being placed onto a ceiling, you MUST also use clips and screws.

  • Position the Panels:

Press the panels firmly against the wall, ensuring they are level. Use a level to check alignment.

  • Secure the Panels:

Interlock the next panel into the first and continue. If using clips and screws, drive them into the wall, making sure they go into the studs.

  • Finish the Installation:

Ensure all panels are securely attached and that the surface is smooth.

  • Cut the Panels:

Measure and cut the WPC panels to size using a saw suitable for composite materials.

  • Apply Adhesive:

If panels are only going onto a wall, apply construction adhesive to the back of the panels. If being placed onto a ceiling, you MUST also use clips and screws.

  • Position the Panels:

Align and press the panels onto the wall. Use a level to ensure they are straight.

  • Secure the Panels:

Interlock the next panel into the first and continue. If using nails or screws, drive them into the wall, making sure they go into the studs.

  • Finish the Installation:

Ensure all panels are securely attached and that the surface is smooth.

  • Cut the Panels:

Measure and cut the heavy-duty WPC panels according to your wall dimensions. You may need a saw specifically designed for dense materials.

  • Prepare the Wall:

Attach batons onto wall/fence at every 400mm apart. We ADVISE not to install directly onto an existing fence due to the weight of each panel, rather installing posts into the ground and adding batons at 400mm apart.

  • Position the Panels:

Align and press the panels onto the wall/fence. Use a level to ensure they are straight.

  • Attach and Secure the Panels:

Drill screws through panel and interlock the next. For extra security, apply polyurethane sealant & adhesive to the back of the panel.

  • Finish the Installation:

Ensure all panels are securely attached and that the surface is smooth.

Final Tips

Follow Manufacturer Instructions: Always refer to the specific installation instructions provided by the cladding manufacturer, as there may be particular requirements or recommendations for the material you’re using.

Use the Right Tools: Ensure you have the appropriate tools for cutting, measuring, and securing the panels. For difficult cuts or dense materials, specialized tools may be necessary.

Safety First: Wear protective gear such as safety goggles, a dust mask, and gloves, especially when cutting or handling materials.

Check for moisture Issues, for outdoor or high-humidity applications, make sure to address any potential moisture issues to prevent damage to the cladding.
